Charlton Athletic’s historic home, The Valley, entered a new era with the installation of a cutting-edge LED floodlight system delivered by MaxAmaze. The project replaced outdated gas-based fixtures with high-performance LED technology, reducing the total number of lamps while significantly increasing light quality. Over just a few days of intensive work, our team delivered a sustainable solution that enhances visibility, reduces energy use, and elevates the stadium experience on matchdays.
The project began with the removal of 136 old floodlights, a process that required precision and careful planning. Over the course of two days, our team safely dismantled the existing fixtures and prepared the stadium for the installation of its new lighting system. This step was essential not only to clear space but also to adapt the infrastructure for the upgraded LED technology.
Once the old lamps were removed, the focus shifted to installing 80 new LED floodlights. A challenging part of the process was transporting the fixtures to their positions high above the pitch, which took two full days of coordinated effort. With the use of specialized lifting equipment, every lamp was safely mounted to ensure optimal alignment and stability.
One of the most striking achievements of this project is the reduction from 136 old gas-based lamps to just 80 LED units. Despite the significant decrease in fixture numbers, the overall light output has increased. The new system is not only more powerful but also far more efficient, resulting in lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance costs—an important step toward more sustainable stadium operations.
