Rapid Floodlighting Upgrade Makes Batimont Solar Park UEFA Ready

When Royale Union Saint-Gilloise qualified for European football, the club once again faced the challenge of finding a UEFA-compliant home venue. With the Joseph Marien Stadium not meeting UEFA requirements, Batimont Solar Park was selected to host Union’s European qualifiers. To make this possible within an exceptionally short timeframe, MaxAmaze engineered and delivered a targeted floodlighting upgrade that transformed the existing installation into a UEFA Level B-compliant system.

Engineering the Smartest Solution

Every stadium has its own technical challenges, which is why every solution starts with engineering.

Rather than replacing the complete floodlighting installation, MaxAmaze first carried out a detailed site survey and digital lighting study. The existing floodlights were measured and simulated to determine exactly which fixtures needed to be replaced to comply with UEFA lighting standards.

Based on this analysis, only the outdated fixtures that were technically required were replaced. A total of 26 new MaxAmaze LED floodlights were installed on the existing lighting masts and the roof of the main stand, while the remaining infrastructure stayed fully operational. This targeted approach significantly reduced the investment without compromising performance.

Three Weeks from Request to UEFA Approval

From the initial request to final delivery, the complete process—including the site survey, lighting study, engineering, installation and UEFA validation—was completed in just three weeks. The on-site works themselves required only two working days, allowing the stadium to be upgraded with minimal disruption.

Following installation, UEFA independently measured the lighting performance. The upgraded system successfully achieved all required values, resulting in UEFA Level B approval and enabling Union Saint-Gilloise to play its European qualifying matches in the Champions League at Batimont Solar Park.

Modernising Stadiums, Step by Step

The Batimont Solar Park project demonstrates that stadium transformation does not always require a complete renovation. Through detailed engineering and carefully planned interventions, existing infrastructure can be upgraded efficiently while meeting the highest international standards.

This approach allows clubs and stadium operators to modernise their venues in phases, maximising existing assets, reducing investment and accelerating project delivery. By combining technical expertise with rapid execution, MaxAmaze helps stadiums become competition-ready when it matters most, creating Ultimate Stadium Experiences.
